Okcate approaches art as a powerful tool of expression and an agent of change, celebrating the relationship between Body and Land. She grew up in the Ancestral Homelands of the Mvskoke in Georgia and Alabama and now resides in Tvlse, OK. Okcate, the Mvskoke word for the color scarlet, was chosen as her name from a Mvskoke Dictionary before she was born. She entered this world at dawn, wailing like a fire engine, brick-red, with ginger hair. The name fit! She strives to make art as bold as her name and to encourage others to imagine, and manifest their dreams.
